Study in UK without IELTS

UK is considered as an excellent Study destination among international students.  There is an opportunity to study at UK’s best Higher Education Institutions even without IELTS though it is highly recommended.
Nowadays many universities are following the policy of exempting IELTS for Indian students if they fulfill particular entry criteria. It is an excellent opportunity for students who are not able to secure good marks in IELTS due to any reasons. But how it is done let’s take a look.
Question – How is the IELTS exempted?
Answer –  Students who have secured minimum 60% above in 10th and 12th in English can make an application without IELTS in the selected institutions. Then University will take Skype or Telephonic interview to judge the student’s communication skills. On the basis of the interview IELTS is exempted. If University is not satisfied with student’s communication skills then student is suggested to appear for IELTS.
Top Universities like Aston, Warwick and Nottingham may require 75% above in English to exempt IELTS.
Question - What about Embassy, will they accept visa application without IELTS score?
Answer – University has to mention on the CAS clearly regarding the exemption of IELTS. If it is not mentioned on the CAS then Visa might be a risk.
CASE STUDY:
Question: I have got IELTS 5.0 overall and 65% above in English. I am planning to study Undergraduate in UK, am I eligible?
Answer – Since for Under Graduate Degree universities require IELTS 6.0 minimum overall and you have got IELTS 5.0 and 65% above in English your IELTS can be exempted provided your chosen university or institute assess you through Telephonic or Skype Interview.
OR
You have an option to study Pre-sessional English for 7-12 weeks depending on the University requirements.
So the answer to your question that “Can I go to UK without giving IELTS” is ‘Yes” but you need to ensure that you have following and instruction of your institution and the UKBA.

AUSTRALIA-SVP or Streamline Visa Processing benefits

Under Knight Review the Australian Government is implementing some significant changes to the International Student Visa Program. One of the important changes called Streamline Visa Processing has come into force from 24th March 2012.
During the review process universities and their associated institutions providing courses outside the university campus have been in close consultation with the visa officials.
What is streamline Visa Processing or SVP?
This means that students having offer letter from participating universities will be part of the streamlined visa process (SVP) which allows for speedy processing of visas.
Does it mean that every student who applies for admission will get visa easily?
No. Stream line Visa Processing requires a thorough assessment of students qualifying for studies in Australia. Every parameter of student visa requirement will be monitored much more closely by the student advisor or agent for the Australian Universities and the Australian universities itself.
What are new changes under Streamline Visa Processing?
Student visa applications lodged on or after March 24 with a Confirmation of Enrolment which is also known as COE from a participating Australian university for a degree OR Packaged by an approved institution to a degree at their participating partner university, will be assessed as though they were a lower migration risk (Similar to the current Assessment Level 1). This is regardless of student’s country of origin.
What is GTE or Genuine Temporary Entrant?
As the name suggests, direct PR or permanent residency for Australia is no more directly associated with getting PR after studies. Students are expected to be aware of this new situation and plan studies well. What this also implies is that student is a temporary entrant and he has genuine interest of studying in Australia. Being a GTE is the key while you plan to study in Australia.
What are the advantages of the Streamline Visa Processing?
  • Fast Visa processing
  • Fund proof not required by the Australian High Commission however student needs to have clearly arranged all the money required for visa as the same may be asked by the participating university or embassy during interview otherwise.
What are the disadvantages of the Streamline Visa Processing?
  • Universities will assess student financial status, interest level and academic performance in India in details. This may lead to slow processing of the admission and student will need to work a lot at admission stage and be sure if s/he is really interested in studying in Australia.
  • DIAC will be much more updated on student performance during studies. What this means is that if student is sick and not attending his or her classes they must intimate through right channel to the university to avoid any unwanted situation on immediate basis.
Can I go to Australia for higher studies with my spouse? Will it be considered as GTE under Streamline Visa Processing?
Yes, your spouse can apply for visa with your application however s/he also needs to be Genuine Temporary Entrant.
Does it mean that I cannot stay in Australia and I have to come back to India as soon as I complete my degree in Australia?
No, Student completing the degree studies at bachelor, Masters of PhD will be eligible for Post Study Work permit and they do not require any job offer for the same. Students are expected to work in their industry and if they get any kind of sponsorship they may be eligible to apply for permanent residency as well. However all this will depend on the visa regulations applicable at the time of application.
What are key areas of assessment under Streamline Visa Processing?
  • Applicant’s circumstances in their home country – family background , financial and academic
  • Applicant’s potential circumstances in Australia – has to be GTE
  • Applicant’s course to the applicant’s future – Course has to be value of money and time spent in Australia
  • Applicant’s immigration history – if student has travelled abroad before and has abided by the visa regulations

Top 10 Reasons why you should study in Australia in 2012

The Australian Government announced on 22nd September 2011 a number of measures to enhance the competitiveness of Australia’s international education sector. From 5th Nov 2011, student visa will be assessed against the new Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.
Hence the top 10 reasons NOW to consider studying in Australia:
1.       Upto 3 YEARS Post Study Work Visa
University graduates who have completed a Bachelor degree or Masters by coursework in Australia are proposed to be eligible to apply for a two year post-study work visa.
University graduates who have completed a Masters by research or PhD degree in Australia are proposed to be eligible to apply for a post-study work visa for three or four years respectively
(The post-study work visa is proposed to be available from early 2013)
2.       FLEXIBLE Part Time Work
Under the proposed arrangement, the student work visa conditions would be measured as 40 hours per fortnight during any fortnight in the course session. A fortnight means a period of 14 days commencing on a Monday.  The proposed arrangement would benefit international students who would be better able to respond to busy periods at work without breaching their visa conditions.
3.       Visa WITHOUT English Test
Students can study English prior to start of their main course, without giving any English Exam. The university will decide on the duration of the English program
4.       LESS funds required for VISA
Students going for bachelors and masters degrees are now need to show funds only for 18 months compared to previous 2 years. No proof of funds required for the tuition fees paid in advance.
5.       Acceptance of MULTIPLE English Exams
Test results from the multiple English language tests for Student visa purposes taken in any country are being accepted
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-Based test (TOEFL iBT)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test (also known as Certificate in Advanced English).
  • IELTS
6.       No requirement to study any SPECIFIC Course
It is proposed that applicants eligible to apply under GTE would not be required to nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List or undertake a skills assessment.
7.       STREAMLINED Visa Processing
Under the proposed streamlined processing arrangements, universities could be confident that the majority of their students would have their visa applications processed quickly. In addition, student visa applicants applying under the proposed streamlining arrangements would generally have reduced evidentiary requirements.
8.       HIGH Quality Education
Australian universities are widely recognized for excellence in many disciplines. Institutions deliver practical and career-orientated training so graduates can be confident they have the skills demanded by employers. Facilities for teaching, training and research are world-class in terms of state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, outstanding libraries and modern technology.
9.       Worldwide RECOGNITION
Institutions in Australia offer a wide variety of course and degrees, making it easy to find a course right for you. Australian qualifications are recognized by employers and leading educational institutions around the world.
10.   MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY
Australia is a safe, multicultural, friendly and harmonious society. Australians value the wealth of cultural diversity and social sophistication that international students bring to the campuses and communities.
According to Australian education experts, there could be no better time than this to study in Australia!
